JCP Swansea Half Marathon 2015 - Sunday June 14th
We have been extremely fortunate to be chosen as one of 3 local charities to benefit from The JCP Swansea Half Marathon 2015, and are thankful to David Martin-Jewell and Nick Francis for nominating Candy Free Kids.
Our runners for The Candy Free Kids team are Paula Murphy, Lizzie Dobson and Joanne Howells from Phillips, Green and Murphy Solicitors. Sara Gwynn a student at Swansea Met and Andrew Charles Maths teacher in Olchfa Comprehensive School. Andrew also ran the London marathon in aid of Candy Free Kids and finished in a fantastic time of 3 hours, 5 minutes and 58 seconds, very well done.
For the big day on Sunday 14th June, we need volunteers help man the cheering station and the gazebo in the runners village for Candy Free Kids. We will be doing a bucket collection so need lots of helpers, we will also be running a Smash the Malteaser Game, tombola and face painting. We will also be cheering, and encouraging all the runners on the route. Let me know if you can help, so I can add you to the list of volunteers – the more the merrier, we are looking to raise lots of money and also make lots of noise to encourage our team of runners and all the other runners. We have a prime spot at the top of Princess Way so will be able to see the runners starting and finishing. Please let us know by 28th May if you can help us out on the day, by e-mail email@example.com or text Clare 07867 507256, Sarah 07925 851826, Tina 07944 702356 or Gaynor 07773 888630

We raise funds so that you have the opportunity to go on a activity residential weekend without your family, to be able to enjoy yourselves, make new Type 1 friends and be no different from anyone else. The Diabetic Team from the hospital will be there to look after you. We are planning to alternate the activity weekends to hold them for the Primary School age (7 – 11 years) one year and the following year for the older age group of 12 – 16 years. So you all get a chance to take part.
We have been very fortunate to have a donation from the lovely staff and pupils at Ysgol Crug Glas in Dyfatty; they did a collection instead of sending Christmas cards and gave the money to us in memory of their friend and colleague Jayne Holmes. We went along for the donation presentation in January.
We also received a donation of £200 from ADSA, where the shoppers used their green tokens to choose which charity to benefit, and we won by a large margin. We went along for the cheque presentation in February.
We are after a storage cupboard - with a lock on if possible or failing that the provision to fit a padlock on. We need to store our things in one place and we can put the cupboard in the Western Residential Centre at Singleton so it has to be in decent condition. If you work in an office and they are having a sort out and have a spare storage cupboard can you bag it for us? Or if you have any friends or family that can find or donate a cupboard we would be very grateful, many thanks.
Best Wishes from Gaynor (Secretary), Claire (Chairperson),
Sarah (Vice-Chair) and Tina (Treasurer).
